Ya, ya, ya...
It is more difficult in Skagway--we have no curbside pickup--but we do what we can. And what You Say Tomato does is offer bulk items to reduce packaging, re-use plastic bags for check out, and collect glass and aluminum which we take to the City's recycle center on Fifth Avenue. We also collect unsellable produce and coffee grounds for compost, most of which goes to the community garden. If you have goats or chickens, we're glad to have you bring a labeled bucket to collect this produce for them. Our corrugated cardboard is collected and taken to the City's bailer to be shipped to a recycler. Questions or suggestions? Let us know!

Summer is here
The longest day of the year--for those of us living in the Northern Hemisphere--has come, and gone. We have really been having great weather--come on, it's not raining--and I hope you are getting lots of hiking, camping, biking, paddling and just being outside in this beautiful place we live. The lilac and rose bushes are loaded, the rhubarb is huge--think pie, delicious pickled, too--and the community garden beds are looking lush. Remember, order full cases and you receive 10% off regular shelf pricing--think about it for your favorite summer beverage, or fruit!

Meet Sam
We are now open seven days per week and have a new employee helping to make the store--it's products and services--available more conveniently. Sam has been living in Skagway--well, Dyea--with his wife Jacqueline for a couple of years now. They have been great customers of You Say Tomato and I'm very glad that he is now working with us!
Look for hours to be extended the last week of May when North Eden opens. Lucas will be back this week, and Cirai--my nephew who will be running the kitchen--arrives next week! Come in and say hello and again be able to enjoy that cup of fair trade, organic Bean North coffee or espresso drink with a tasty, hot breakfast burrito!

Kate's back
The winter resting period is done, spring busy-ness has begun. Reba must change capes to become Dirty Girl, super gardener. Kate returns to tend to the care of You Say Tomato and it's customers. New momma, Emily, is introducing young Yonder Blue to the world and will be back, with Yonder, in May to bring enticing and tasty organic produce to our customers. This month, friend, Lynn, is bringing her own expertise to the creation of beautiful produce club bags. Her own young son, Liam is becoming quite familiar with the produce area of You Say Tomato!
Locally, chives and rhubarb are up in the garden beds!
North Eden will be re-opening in mid-May with FTO espresso, coffee and tea, as well as hearty, healthy homemade food to go!
Remember, what you eat should be good for the earth as well as yourself!

Order in tomorrow! Lots of eggs, milk and yogurts including soy. We'll have lowfat cottage cheese, too!
We didn't get thick rolled oats or nori sheets (insert Julene's sad face here) but are getting Arrowhead instant oatmeal, and Bob's tasty hot cereal and peanut satay and a ginger peanut sauce!
A new item for us this week is Yves Zesty Italian Veggie Brats. Can't wait to try them on a hearty roll with grilled onions, green peppers and a hot spicy mustard.
